The OMA Ironic loudspeaker is an open-baffle model, without an enclosure, and is made from a special hypoeutectic cast iron (with a high graphite content) typically used in high-tech applications, such as photolithography machines for the production of silicon chips, where resonance or vibrations must be reduced to an absolute minimum. The unique combination of drivers used in the Ironic – a 15-inch electrodynamic or field-coil woofer, of the sort found in 1930s jukeboxes, and a bespoke ribbon tweeter capable of reaching 110 dB at 10 kHz, at 1 m, combines to create an open-baffle loudspeaker with an efficiency of at least 104 dB across most of its frequency response. The Ironic has been produced in a limited edition of just ten pairs.
